About

Evie Ayres-Townshend

Evie began directing at Kings College London in 2017  (as an extreme means of procrastination from her English Literature Degree).  Graduating into a pandemic, she turned her head to making her own work, forming strong creative relationships with fellow emerging women and queer writers, producers and filmmakers, whom she continues to work with. Queerness, gender politics and the messiness of the human experience are key aspects of the work she's excited about.

The covid pandemic's annihilation of live theatre is what introduced Evie to making film. In her fledgling projects she worked hard to develop a directorial style that maintains the wholesome, collaborative and nurturing environment of the theatre rehearsal space, on set.

Outside of directing, Evie runs the charity Club Soda who mentor and platform musicians and DJs with learning disabilities and produce accessible club nights and live music events. Part of the role involves working with mainstream music spaces to influence their inclusion of people with learning disabilities. She also has a background in the martial art of Tae Kwon Do, teaching to adults and children of mixed abilities for 10 years.

Music, play and collaboration are central to her directing style. Evie prioritises inclusion and safety in all her creative spaces.
